Man jailed for sex acts with boy, met via gay dating app
SINGAPORE – A man who met a 12-year-old boy on a gay dating app had three sex with the child despite knowing his age.
Medrano Ermin Marasigan, a 36-year-old Filipino, was jailed for two years and eight months on Wednesday (September 29) after pleading guilty to three counts of sexual penetration of a minor under 14, with three counts charges of the same nature retained. in consideration for his conviction. Another charge of committing an indecent act with the same boy has also been considered.
Medrano, a restaurant manager, met the boy through gay dating app Blued in December 2019. The boy, now 13, identifies as bisexual and was introduced to gay dating apps around June 2019 by an acquaintance he met online. The boy and acquaintance cannot be named due to a gag order.
He downloaded Blued and another similar app to expand his circle of male friends and falsely stated that he was 18 in both apps. In fact, he indicated that he was 13 years old on his profile. He also told Medrano he was 13 years old.
The boy’s age did not deter Medrano, who asked for his photo and asked to meet. The couple did this three times between December 13, 2019 and January 3, 2020 and had sex each time.
On December 13, 2019, the boy sent Medrano two photos of his genitals at the latter’s request. Medrano requested an appointment at his home the same day. The boy initially agreed, but then changed his mind, saying he needed to do some shopping. Medrano replied that he was “sad” and “hurt” and persuaded the boy, saying the meeting “won’t take long”. He also offered to call a Grab to take the victim to his home and his next destination.
The boy gave in and went to Medrano’s house, and they engaged in sexual acts.
Four days later, Medrano texted the victim, but the boy didn’t respond until the next day, saying he already had plans. Medrano then replied, “I (sic) not important to you. This is (sic) good.
On December 19, 2019, Medrano initiated a meeting. The two engaged in sexual activity in Medrano’s bedroom.
On January 3 of last year, the boy again accepted an invitation to Medrano. They engaged in sexual activities. The two ceased contact on January 11 last year.
On February 5 last year, the victim’s stepfather checked the boy’s cell phone and found out about his conversations with other gay men. He confronted the boy, who confessed to having “physical contact” with three men. After a discussion with the boys’ mother, the stepfather filed a police report.
